Whereas A grade received in any given course does not always reflect the student's ability in that subject; and
Whereas That grade does not take into account any usual circumstances that may may have adversely affected the student's academic performance.
Be It Further Resolved That Student Congress, the official representative body of UTA's 25,000 member student community, supports the enaction of House Bill 501 in the Texas Legislature, which establishes the following: Upon the receipt of a grade "C","D", or "F" in a course, and upon the second attempt of the same course in which a superior grade to the first attempt is received, the second grade will be the only grade used in calculation of the students GPA. This bill only applies to two (2) courses and any attempts beyond two will result in all grades being received for GPA purposes; and
Be It Further Resolved That H.B. 501 be amended to include provisions for the first grade being superior to the second; in this case, the superior grade should be recorded for GPA calculation purposes; this amendment, we believe, is representative of the spirit in which this bill was originally submitted.
