Remarks Policy is in effect.
Whereas One of the goals of UT Arlington and the UT System is to improve student graduation rates and encourage students to graduate faster; and
Whereas The current flat-rate tuition policy is designed to encourage students to take a larger load each semester by making the cost per credit hour cheaper as the total number of enrolled credit hours encreases; and
Whereas Taking classes during a Maymester or Wintermester session helps students graduate faster; and
Whereas Under current tuition policy, the cost of a single class taken during a Maymester or a Wintermester session is determined independently of other semester sessions resulting in a relatively high cost for those classes, discouraging students from taking them; and
Whereas Students who pay fees for benefits, such as those for the Recreation Center and the Health Center, during long semesters continue to receive those benefits over the Maymester and Wintermester sessions whether or not they are enrolled in classes; and
Whereas Students register for Wintermester classes at the same time they register for Spring classes and register for Maymester classes at the same time they register for Summer classes.
Be It Further Resolved That The cost of Wintermester classes be rolled into Spring tuition and the cost of Maymester classes be rolled into Summer tuition so as to allow for the positive effects of the flat-rate tuition policy.
