Remarks FAILED. The library currently has more than 80 loanable laptops. A survey was conducted of 200 showing a 71% approval rate, and the library is not prepared to expand the program or extend the check-out period.
Whereas The UTA central library has approximately 48 laptops for about 25,000 students and all staff; and
Whereas The library lends those laptops to students for only 24 hours and assesses a late fee of $60 max if unable to return within 48 hours and after that the student will eventually lose the right to loan again for the semester; and
Whereas The circulation rate of these laptops is 1000 per month which is equivalent to 70% of the time; and
Whereas Very often UTA students attend national and international competitions and conferences to represent UTA in the national arena; and
Whereas These students need laptops to present their cases in those competitions and conferences, and UTA as a whole is unable to help these students by providing laptops.
Be It Further Resolved That A portion of the UTA central library laptops be set aside for use of students going to conferences and competitions and as such can be checked out for multiple days at a time.
