Remarks IMPLEMENTED - The president of the university supports this resolution.
Whereas UTA is currently considering the construction of a multi-purpose arena where its basketball and volleyball teams would play, graduations could take place, and where University and non-University events alike could be held; and
Whereas UTA-related events will tend to occupy the majority of events that would take place in this arena; and
Whereas Attendance for many sporting events already held on campus is considered lackluster; and
Whereas The situation of an arena off of campus would not at all encourage attendance to any University-held event; and
Whereas Though the cost of this venture would not be entirely incurred by UTA, UTA would be its primary source of funding; and
Whereas The placement of an arena on or close to campus would be greatly beneficial to UTA's image, athletic programs, and the student body.
Be It Further Resolved That An arena nearby campus would become an asset to the UTA campus itself, and could help stimulate area development and improvement in conjunction with the Central Arlington Initiative; and
Be It Further Resolved That If an arena is to be built and funded primarily or in part by the University, we, the Student Congress, strongly support the situation of that said arena on or very close in proximity (within a one-mile radius) to the main UTA campus.
