Whereas | The UT Arlington has recently started allowing food trucks during the week on the Library Mall. The Library Mall has limited tables and seating near student organizations fundraiser event tables and the recent addition of Food Trucks has only furthered the need for additional lunch time seating and eating areas. |
Whereas | The university would like to create an atmosphere within its public park spaces similar to that of popular urban parks like Dallas's Klyde Warren Park where moveable tables and chairs remain packed most of the lunch period and flexible to the changing daily needs of park visitiors. |
Whereas | Most days the small number of existing screwed down tables and chairs are blocked by student organizations using them for staging and prep work for their fundraising events. Many Library Mall events are limited and unsuccessful due to a lack of flexible comfortable tables and chairs for students to stop and partake in the activity. Existing chairs and tables are mounted in less than optimal locations around the mall and campus walkways |
Whereas | The University is trying to encourage some 33,806 students, 5,000 of which live on campus, to linger and enjoy campus life on a regular basis and thereby increase student success and graduation rates as part of the Universities goal towards Tier 1. |
Whereas | The UT Arlington Campus Masterplan of 2005-2020 recommends that we 'create a campus of outdoor rooms, shaded gardens, and activity hubs... interconnected by tree-lined pedestrian malls' which will 'encourage student achievement through an enriching university experience by creating culturally diverse community hubs that integrate housing, open spaces, and academic facilities' thereby '[engaging] the broader community as learners, teachers, and partners in the development and growth of the university and downtown Arlington through a welcoming, accessible campus that opens outward.' |
Be It Further Resolved That | UT Arlington should purchase durable movable cafe tables and chairs for general purpose use all over campus including in areas like the Library mall for daily use by students, student organizations, food truck customers, and university events to promote the flexible and pedestrian friendly campus life. |
