Remarks The plan going forward is to install a High Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) lighting system similar to the new pedestrian crossing installed for the Arlie on Abram Street. The city and university will share in paying for this once the Director of Public Works and Transportation has obtained City Council Approval.
Whereas The crosswalk on UTA Blvd., which crosses from the Social Work complex, has become a nuisance for drivers; and
Whereas A crosswalk button would regulate the flow of student traffic across the street; and
Whereas Automobile traffic needs to be able to continue to flow and not back up onto Cooper St.; and
Whereas Automobile traffic does not back up on UTA Blvd (East) by the apartments and Bookstore where the road is one lane and has a crosswalk signal.
Be It Further Resolved That By installing crosswalk timers, the safety of our students is put first. Students, Faculty, and Staff attempting to leave campus or arrive on campus are able to do so safely.
