Remarks Committee felt that appropriate measures were already in place and no additional action was necessary on this subject
Whereas Federal Title IV and State of Texas regulations require institutions of higher education to monitor the academic progress of students who receive financial aid; and
Whereas A student may attempt no more than 150% of the credit hours required by his degree program (transfer hours are counted as both attempted and completed hours); and
Whereas Some of the students who pursue dual degrees, Masters or PhD at UTA are put on SAP hold because the system shows that they are taking way too many classes; and
Whereas This leads them to lose their financial aid and/or scholarships because SAP hold is perceived as a negative thing; and
Whereas Many times it has nothing to do with grades but only the amount of classes one has taken at UTA.
Be It Further Resolved That The system recognizes the change in degree level (Bachelors/Masters/PhD) so that the SAP hold doesn't unfairly affect to those students
Be It Further Resolved That SAP hold on accounts must specify if they are grade related, credit hours related or for some other reason.
