Whereas The University of Texas at Arlington Scholarship Office offers scholarships for freshmen that can be obtained upon meeting certain class rank/GPA and SAT/ACT scores from high school; and
Whereas These scholarships can be renewed for up to four years as long as the student maintains a certain GPA and takes 30 hours of UTA courses each academic year; and
Whereas This 30-hour fulfillment can be very difficult for some students to meet as they may require fewer than 30 credit hours to graduate; and
Whereas This forces many students to take classes outside of their degree plan in order to complete the 30 credit hour renewal requirements, which distracts them from their required coursework, ultimately affecting their overall major GPA; and
Whereas Students who require less than 30 credit hours per Academic Year and also maintain the minimum renewal GPA requirements should be waived from the 30 credit hours requirement to renew their Academic scholarship.
Be It Further Resolved That The UTA Financial Aid Office works with UT Arlington Advising Offices to create a Financial Aid Credit-Hour Exemption Form, available to students who meet the aforementioned criteria, to allow them to take less hours for that academic year to renew their academic scholarships.
Be It Further Resolved That UTA Financial Aid Office works with College of Nursing & Health Innovation to create a credit-hour requirements exemption for students enrolled in upper division Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.
