Whereas The University of Texas at Arlington is devoted to protecting the rights of all students regardless of race, gender identity, sexual identity, etc; and
Whereas Some students do not fit the mold of female or male in terms of gender and sex (nonbinary or intersex students); and
Whereas Being required to use a bathroom labeled “Men” or “Women” is often mislabeling and uncomfortable for students not on the gender binary; and
Whereas Using the bathroom is often an unsafe experience for students based on their presentation and gender identification; and
Whereas UTA should embrace all diversity by making sure that students are comfortable and safe; and
Whereas Many of the buildings on campus do not have gender neutral bathrooms, which is troublesome as some of these buildings are centrally located, heavily populated or experience heavy traffic throughout the day.
Be It Further Resolved That UT Arlington replace the signage of already existing single stall restrooms, such as COBA 101 and College Hall B08 with appropriate gender neutral signage in order to convert them into gender neutral restrooms.
Be It Further Resolved That UT Arlington build or convert one old restroom into a single stall gender neutral restroom in one of the highly populated, centrally located buildings suc as Nedderman Hall, Science Hall, Geoscience. Then add one gender neutral restroom in the following buildings: KC Hall, Trimble Hall, and the Central Library.
Be It Further Resolved That UT Arlington also find ways to extensively publicize and educate the student body of these restrooms so that more students can benefit from them.
Be It Further Resolved That UT Arlington grant residents access to the 2nd floor gender neutral restrooms in Arlington Hall, and grant students access to the gender neutral restroom in Hammond Hall as faculty and staff are only permitted to use those restrooms.
Be It Further Resolved That UT Arlington include gender neutral restrooms and signage in all future buildings.
