Whereas The University of Texas at Arlington prides itself on providing one of the most quality engineering educations in the state of Texas; and
Whereas Engineering students at UTA, due to the nature of the Engineering program, are seldom given the opportunity to solve real-life problems; and
Whereas Engineering students at UTA are also seldom given the opportunity to have an impact on the local and global community; and
Whereas Engineering students at UTA are also seldom given the opportunity to collaborate with other engineering students in teams; and
Whereas Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) is a "service-learning design program" that was founded by Purdue University, funded by corporate sponsors, and provides students the opportunity to work in groups to solve real-life problems to benefit the local and global community; and
Whereas EPICS has been adopted by many other universities, including Texas A & M, as a 1-3 credit hour class that counts toward an engineering degree program, oftentimes in place of a technical elective.
