Remarks IMPLEMENTED
Whereas UTA has over 23,000 students; and
Whereas UTA has under 830 full-time-equivalent faculty members, according to UTA's Office of Institutional Research and Planning; and
Whereas In accordance with Part One, Chapter II, Sec. 17.11 of the Regent's Rules, students are given one seat on the presidential search committee; and
Whereas Faculty members are given three seats and several other groups have two or more seats on this committee; and
Whereas The president selected for the University has an incredible impact not only on the short-term affairs of students, such as yearly budgets, fees, etc but also a long-term impact on the affairs of students in areas such as the value of the degree they receive, the presence or absence of various sports at the University, etc; and
Whereas Students have an incredible stake in this process and comprise a very large percentage of those who do have a stake in the process.
Be It Further Resolved That The Regent's Rules, Part One, Chapter II, Sec. 17.11 ' 'Presidents of Component Institutions ' Selection' be amended so that where it now states 'One student from the institution involved', it instead states 'Two students from the institution involved', and the amount of students is equivalent to that of the faculty; and
Be It Further Resolved That Language also be added similar to the section concerning community members on the committee to grant the Chairman of the Board to appoint additional student representatives; and
Be It Further Resolved That Upon passage, this resolution be forwarded to UTSAC as well as directly to the Board of Regents for their consideration.
