Remarks FAILED - Police provide a 24hr service if it is needed by a student.
Whereas The University of Texas at Arlington has many international and residential students living in various on and near-campus apartments; and
Whereas The University has experienced 14 consecutive semesters of growth; and
Whereas Many facilities like the library and the computer center are already open 24 hours several days of the week; and
Whereas Because many of them do not have cars, many students walk from various near-campus apartments, crossing busy streets such UTA Blvd and others; and
Whereas Students have been injured, and even killed, crossing streets near campus; and
Whereas At nights after 10 p.m., walking back home to the off campus apartments around UTA can be dangerous and unsafe.
Be It Further Resolved That The Sam Maverick Ride service be extended until at least 3 a.m.; and
Be It Further Resolved That The number of Sam Maverick Ride carts running especially in the evening and at night be increased.
