Students Received 2023 Texas ASLA Student Honor Award
Architecture students received the 2023 Texas ASLA Student Honor Award for their Next Generation Bus Shelter design. The students created a prototype through their studio design class to redesign and rebuild bus transit shelters and worked in collaboration with Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). They then won an award for its creativity and functionality.
Assistant Professor Julia Lindgren led this three-month project. Sixteen CAPPA students partnered on the project alongside DART and the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Students explored the Dallas area, gathering information and residential input on the bus system, allowing them a deeper insight into how they could improve upon the current DART system. In their design, the team considered factors like Texas weather and feedback on the city’s bus system from Dallas residents. Their hard work and dedication paid off, resulting in the design being recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), receiving the 2023 Texas ASLA Student Honor Award.
This recognition is a testament to the outstanding creativity and hard work demonstrated by the CAPPA team in designing a shelter that enhances the functionality of a bus shelter but also the added aesthetic value to the urban landscape.
