New Assistant Dean
Myrshem George, an executive with extensive experience in fundraising for nonprofit organizations and higher education, has been named assistant dean for development for the UT Arlington College of Engineering.
George has worked for more than 24 years within the nonprofit sector as an operational, administrative, and fundraising executive and has held fundraising and operational positions within several nonprofit agencies and universities. Prior to joining UTA, he was Chief Executive Officer at Equest, where he oversaw the agency’s financial management, fundraising and overall operations. Under his leadership, the organization navigated challenges and seized opportunities, raising over $800,000 in just six months.
“I’m thrilled to have joined Maverick country, working closely with the Dean, fellow development colleagues and University leadership to connect with our alumni base, further helping to build upon past successes and continually grow the philanthropic pipeline for the university,” George said.
George also served as the Chief Advancement Officer and, later, the Chief Operating Officer at Austin Street Center, where he spent four years in service to Dallas’ most vulnerable homeless neighbors. As the Chief Advancement Officer, Myrshem handled all revenue generating activities and managed aspects that helped to advance the agency’s mission. He grew the agency’s annual fundraising from $2.9M in FY19 to $5.3M in FY20, $8.4M in FY21 and $7.9M in FY22, respectively. In addition, he played an integral part in the launch and successful completion of the “Help Them Home Capital Campaign,” garnering more than $18.9M in private support and New Market Tax Credits. This campaign led to the construction and now-fully operational Austin Street Center for Community Engagement – a 60,000 square foot, ultramodern homeless shelter and day service center for Dallas’ vulnerable neighbors. After the campaign’s success, he became the Shelter’s Chief Operating Officer.
George has also worked at the University of North Texas, Collin College, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento, the University of Washington and the University of the Virgin Islands’ Reichhold Center for the Arts.
“Industry relations and fundraising are crucial in our ability as a College of Engineering to provide the best possible opportunities for our students, and to create meaningful, lasting relationships with industry and the community. I am confident that Myrshem’s experience and knowledge of the Dallas-Fort Worth area will allow him to greatly increase our efforts in these areas,” said Peter Crouch, dean of the College of Engineering.
He earned his Master of Business Administration degree, concentrating in Human Resource Management, from the University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and an Associate of Arts degree in Business Management from the University of the Virgin Islands.
