RCE NTX News: Summer 2023

Universities and colleges around the world are making commitments to advance the UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) through their teaching, research, operations, and partnerships. One proven model for making good on this commitment is to establish a United Nations-affiliated RCE network. RCEs - Regional Centers of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development - are regional multi-stakeholder networks, grounded in higher education, that advance the SDGs through education and training. RCEs are proliferating, with over 180 networks around the world, including 27 in the Americas.

RCE NTX News: Fall 2021

North Texas is about to become more heavily populated with population projections more than doubling from the current 7.2 million residents by the year 2050. In this rapid growth scenario, all sectors of the region have grave concerns which prompt the question, “How will North Texas fare as it confronts the diverse population projections together with the associated environmental, economic, and social challenges that are sure to follow?” Education is the cornerstone of everything we do, and with this summit and dialogue we hoped to provide a platform for meaningful conversation for our region and support local governmental, nonprofits and other organization in their efforts.

As the gears of the world start turning again, there is an air of hope in the effort to build back better. This coincides with one of our core values at Nexus PMG: To Build A Better World. There’s no doubt that more jobs, embracing renewables, and improved infrastructure will contribute to a better world. But as we as risk assessment specialists know, change to systems can reveal new challenges. We won’t pretend to have insights into all of the challenges that lie ahead. However, we can make some educated guesses.

RCE NTX News: Spring 2021

RCE North Texas is one of the 179 RCE’s worldwide founded in March 2019. RCE North Texas is a network of multidisciplinary stakeholders, including higher education institutions, businesses, non-governmental organizations, community associations, and local, regional, state and federal government agencies. RCE North Texas is an influencer in the community as cities expand, providing the resources to maximize the potential economic opportunity that well-managed communities can offer and be a conduit for trans-formative education in North Texas. We are focused on the following SDGs, deemed priority for our region: Good Health and Well-Being (3); Quality Education (4); Sustainable Cities and Communities (11).

RCE NTX News: February 2020

Issues of sustainability are going to be the lens through which most of our students apply their education, and every field of study across a college campus should be educating students to their role of building a more sustainable future. Leading the Office of Sustainability at UT Dallas, teaching, and working with young people on sustainability, I have observed 2 challenges over and over again which have become my passion to address.
