'Women ruled pop culture this year'
To celebrate Women’s History Month, students and campus groups are hosting events across The University of Texas at Arlington campus.
This year the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Program is hosting “Women in Pop CultHER” with the Intercultural Student Engagement Center, the Department of Global Engagement, Career Development Center, Women of Gold, RVSP, Fraternity and Sorority Life and Health Services.
“Women ruled pop culture this year,” said Dustin Harp, director of the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies program and associate professor in the College of Liberal Arts. “'Barbie,' the biggest movie in Hollywood, was led by women, and Taylor Swift and Beyoncé had the two highest-grossing world tours.
“We’re going to be celebrating women in pop culture, but we’re also going to be thinking critically about women’s role in society, in history and in spaces where women’s voices are not being represented.”
Events include:
- The Department of Global Engagement’s bi-weekly Global Grounds chai break in the University Center’s Palo Duro Lounge on Thursday, March 7, at 4 p.m.
