UTA marks 75th year of regional science fair

The University of Texas at Arlington will host hundreds of North Texas middle and high school students at the 75th annual UTA-Fort Worth Regional Science and Engineering Fair on Monday at College Park Center.
Nearly 600 students spanning 10 counties—Cooke, Denton, Erath, Hood, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker, Somervell, Tarrant and Wise—and representing grades 6–12 from public, private, charter and home schools are registered to compete. They will showcase science and engineering projects for a chance to win cash awards and advance to state and national competitions. Best-of-fair honors and prizes in more than 22 categories will be awarded.
Categories include animal sciences, behavioral and social sciences, biochemistry, computer science, earth and planetary science, material and bioengineering, mathematical sciences, physics and astronomy, and plant sciences.
The UTA-sponsored fair is one of the few regional fairs in Texas that does not charge participation fees to schools or students. The public is invited to view the projects from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday. An awards ceremony will follow from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

“It’s an honor for UTA to host the fair, and the 75th edition is going to be memorable,” said Yuan Bo Peng, UTA psychology professor and director of the fair. “It’s rewarding to see the next generation of scientists and engineers showcase their projects. We wish all of this year’s entrants the best of luck and hope they have a great time while visiting UTA.”
A select number of winning entries will advance to the 2026 Texas Science and Engineering Fair, scheduled for March 27–28 at Texas A&M University. Students from the UTA-FWRSEF fair have regularly gone on to win awards from TXSEF and the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair, the world’s largest pre-college science and engineering competition.
