The UTA-based Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center (TMAC) has more than 20 years of experience providing solutions to Texas manufacturers and businesses to help them develop and improve their profits, products, processes, technology, and people.

“I enjoy helping manufacturers make improvements that streamline their production processes and eliminate unnecessary activities,” says Executive Director Rodney Reddic. “The great part about improving processes is that it not only helps the manufacturer be more efficient, but it also improves work quality of life for employees.”

Two recent success stories demonstrate TMAC’s commitment to elevating Texas manufacturers.

TMAC worked with Plano-based NPIC—an industry leader in pet treats—to identify opportunities to reduce waste throughout its facility. The results of the E3 assessment and training delivered by TMAC were dramatic. Thanks to suggested changes, the company was able to save 83,000 gallons of water, recycle 2.4 tons of cardboard, and produce an electricity reduction of 122,000 kWh per year.

Oldcastle Building Envelope, a Grand Prairie-based company that produces interior and exterior products for the commercial building industry, turned to TMAC for help increasing its production of shower enclosures to meet growing consumer demand. A team taught by TMAC to use Lean Six Sigma tools was established internally to evaluate the process. The collaborative effort included improving extant technology; reevaluating maintenance schedules, workloads, and responsibilities; empowering employees; and fixing the order entry process. Combined, these changes resulted in a doubling of average output and a 34% increase in sales.
