Report touts UTA for helping struggling students

UTA was named one of the best public universities in the state for helping struggling students, The Dallas Morning News reported. The story cited a new study by the Dallas-based nonprofit ScholarShot that awarded UTA for serving first-generation, low-income students.

UTA Pre-Law Center opens

The Pre-Law Center at The University of Texas at Arlington recently inaugurated the Adelfa B. Callejo Courtroom, Targeted News Service reported. The space will serve as a practice area for mock trial and moot court participants, as well as a classroom and gathering spot for students interested in studying law.

Social Work accolade

UTA’s master's degree in social work program is among the best in the nation, Phys.org, Scienmag and BioPortfolio.com reported. The study was published in the journal Science of the Total Environment. Kevin Schug, Shimadzu Distinguished Professor of Analytical Chemistry and co-founder and director of CLEAR, led the study along with CLEAR co-founder Zacariah Hildenbrand.

Retail struggles

Traci Freling, a UTA associate professor in marketing in the College of Business, said big anchor retail stores are struggling during a KXAS NBC 5 story. “We’re in the midst of a retail apocalypse,” she said, adding that Macy’s new specialty format store might be just the ticket for the retailer to survive.

UTA artist’s work in exhibit

Arlington-based artist Benjamin Terry is taking part in the 2020 season of artists in Corsicana, the Corsicana Daily Sun reported in a profile on the artist, who is a UTA senior lecturer in painting.
