Password Security

Passwords

It is a sign of the times that we have a day designated as World Password Day. Password security is more vital today than ever before. Each year, on the first Thursday of May, organizations around the world remind us of the importance of using strong passwords. Below, you can find some of the most helpful tips about password security.

You are the best line of defense against cyber-attacks. Create strong, unique passwords. Never cooperate with emails, text messages or phone calls that ask for you to share your passwords. The University will never require you to share this information, nor will any reputable business or institution.

When creating a password, it is advisable to use a passphrase rather than a regular password. Passphrases are longer and harder to guess. Remember to keep it random, nonsensical and not at all connected to any of your personal information. Below are some examples of some strong passphrases and passwords.
