DEGREE OVERVIEW

In addition to three bachelor's degree plans and three undergraduate minors (geography, military history, and the history of technology and science), we offer M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in history. One of only three doctoral programs housed in UTA’s College of Liberal Arts, ours offers students full fellowships, opportunities to teach at the undergraduate level, and research support to assist you in completing your degrees in a timely manner.

DEGREE OPTIONS

BA History Secondary Social Studies Education Option

The Bachelor of Arts in history with Secondary Social Studies Education Certification consists of 122 hours of coursework (including the University’s basic core, 36 hours of history coursework, 14 hours of foreign language, and 24 hours of education-focused coursework, field experience, and student teaching). This degree plan also incorporates classes in political science, economics, and geography to ensure that graduates are fully prepared in the broader field of social studies. Upon completion of all degree requirements, students will have the opportunity to take the state of Texas Teaching Certification examinations administered by the Texas Education Agency. Students who successfully complete this examination will be certified to teach social studies grades 7-12.

BA Legal History Option

In addition to legal history courses, students pursuing this degree track have the option of choosing from a wide selection of advanced courses in political science, business law, criminal justice, economics, and related fields in the social sciences. Students also have the opportunity to participate in UTA’s highly successful Moot Court, a mock trial program that competes at the state and national levels.
