Theatre Arts - Bachelor's (BA, BFA)

CIP CODE 50.0501.00

The Department of Theatre Arts at The University of Texas at Arlington provides theatre arts majors with a well-rounded education in the theatrical profession through extensive practical and theoretical application of the art and craft of the stage. Theatre majors at UTA embark each year on a season of artistic development and enrichment. Students are challenged to develop their talent, self-discipline, and initiative through both intellectual and practical pursuits. Theatrical production work goes hand-in-hand with classes designed to immerse students in the theatrical production process, as well as dramatic literature, theatre history, and play writing. The UTA Department of Theatre Arts is large enough to offer a broadly based and comprehensive curriculum, yet small enough to nurture close-knit relationships between faculty and students. Our location connects students to a larger community of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, affording them unique opportunities for professional employment.

The theatre arts program prepares actors, designers, and instructors for careers in the vibrant DFW metroplex as well as regionally throughout the U.S. Maverick theatre students will receive professional training to continue their education in graduate schools. Our program sets theatre arts students up for success through hands-on production experience, close-knit faculty mentoring, and an active development of a work-ready ethic.

Each curriculum sub-plan is tailored to extensive coursework and required production work and auditioning. All BFA plans are admitted by audition only. Extensive audition and degree plan information can be found on our website: uta.edu/theatre. A BA in theatre arts does not require an audition.
