Program Spotlight: Executive MBA
The Executive MBA program at the University of Texas at Arlington College of Business is tailored for experienced professionals eager to enhance their leadership skills and expand their business acumen. This 17-month program emphasizes a collaborative, team-based curriculum, where small cohorts work closely together throughout the course to tackle real-world challenges and gain hands-on experience in diverse business environments.
We had the opportunity to sit down with Hakim Sims, the Executive MBA Program Director at the UTA College of Business in Fort Worth, to gain insights into what sets the EMBA program apart and how it offers a unique and valuable experience for professionals looking to elevate their careers.

Q: Can you explain who you are and what you do?
I’m Hakim Sims, the Executive MBA Program Director for the College of Business at UTA Fort Worth. I oversee many aspects of the program, from recruiting and admissions to advising and academic structure, to alumni engagement. I get the privilege of guiding our students through a transformational experience and helping them grow as leaders and professionals.
Q: Can you explain the Executive MBA program? How does it differ from a traditional MBA program?
The Executive MBA program is designed for experienced professionals who are ready to elevate their careers, sharpen their leadership skills, and apply practical knowledge immediately in the workplace. What also sets it apart from a traditional MBA is the cohort model, where experienced leaders learn alongside each other in a shared journey. This creates rich, engaging discussions in the classroom and powerful peer-to-peer learning.
On top of that, our program includes a schedule built for working professionals, Leadership Laboratories, one-on-one executive coaching, a global business trip, exclusive networking opportunities, and a lifelong alumni experience. It’s truly a transformative program.
Q: What is a cohort?
Being a part of a cohort means you start and finish the program with the same group of peers, taking every course together. This creates a built-in support system, deeper classroom engagement, and lasting relationships.
Q: How does our EMBA program differ from others?
One of the standout features of our EMBA program is our Leadership Laboratories. These aren't just workshops, they're integrated experiences designed to enhance your strategic thinking, personal growth, and leadership effectiveness throughout the entire program.
Another key difference is our dedication to making executive education more accessible. We believe that a high quality, AACSB accredited program shouldn’t come with an overwhelming price tag. Our goal is to provide a transformational experience that delivers value, both personally and professionally, without putting financial barriers in the way.
Q: What can students expect to gain by being part of the program?
Students gain real-world knowledge and tools they can apply at work immediately, from learning something on Saturday and using it on Monday. They also gain clarity about their leadership style and career direction, as well as a network of diverse professionals they can lean on, learn from, and grow with for years to come.
Q: Who is the program designed for?
The EMBA is tailored for experienced professionals, whether they’re looking to move up in their current role, shift into a new field, strengthen a specific skill set, or simply challenge themselves to grow personally and professionally. It’s for those who are ready to invest in becoming the best version of themselves.
Q: What would you tell prospective students who are on the fence about enrolling?
There’s never a “perfect” time to invest in yourself, but there is always a right time. And that time is now. Committing just a few Saturdays a month over 17 months can lead to one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. You’ll grow, you’ll be inspired, and you’ll inspire others around you. And after graduation, you’ll continue to benefit from ongoing EMBA exclusive learning, coaching, networking, and global trip opportunities.
Q: What is your favorite part about leading this unique program?
For me, it’s about empowerment. I love helping leaders in our community realize their potential and watching them grow from the first day of class to graduation and beyond. Being able to support and shape so many aspects of their journey is an honor I don’t take lightly.
