Averting CAT-astrophe is a 501c3 non-profit cat rescue group consisting entirely of volunteers. We are focused primarily on saving cats and kittens off of the euthanasia list at local shelters. We placed over 500 cats and kittens in 2015, and 702 cats and kittens in 2016!

General Service Needs
Local, reliable fosters are needed! Fostering is easy and rewarding, kitties don't take much space and they give you lots of love in return. We will be happy to answer your questions and get you started. Fosters are needed for kittens, mother cats with kittens, and adult cats. You will need to fill out a foster application.

We have a special new program under the name Arlington Cats Alive! Arlington Neonatal Kitten Nursery is a collaboration with the Arlington Animal Shelter to improve the live release rate of bottle babies. If you would like to foster kittens in your home who are 1-28 days of age that come into the AAS, then this is for you! A training class is required for bottle baby fosters.

Tasks Available for UTA Students
Our greatest need is for fosters! We also need volunteers to clean condos and socialize our kitties who are at the pet store for adoption. Volunteers can help with transport. We need volunteers to help with our Facebook page and Instagram. Since we rely on donations we have an active fundraising team. You can make a difference!

Back on My Feet recruits members at homeless and residential facilities around the country and begins with a commitment to run three days a week in the early morning. After 30 days in the program, members with 90% attendance earn the opportunity to move into the second phase of the program called Next Steps, which provides educational support, job training programs, employment partnership referrals and housing resources. Over 80% of individuals who start our program move into the Next Steps phase.

In Next Steps, members work with BoMF program staff to develop a personal road map to independence. Each member attends financial literacy classes and job skills training provided through partnerships with our corporate partners. Members can earn financial assistance to remove barriers to employment and housing such as work supplies, transportation and security deposits. Members who achieve employment and housing become Alumni Members. Within six months of becoming a Back on My Feet Alumnus, 90% of members maintain their employment, 60% receive a wage increase and 20% achieve a promotion.

The Bair foundation is committed to child and family services across nine states. Our programs range from foster care and adoption services (including children with special and therapeutic needs), to clinical and behavioral health aids and independent living transitions.

When a child comes into The Bair Foundation’s care, the state allots 30 days to gather all necessary paperwork, such as birth certificates, and hospital and judicial records. Since social case workers are quite often overloaded, the foundation is seeking volunteers who are willing to help gather documents for our Dallas, TX location. This would aid Bair’s mission to serve as many needy children as possible!

There is no minimum hour requirement. All we ask is that volunteers be 18 years of age or older and have access to their own transportation. (Destinations will include hospitals and courthouses.) Prior to donating their time, all volunteers will be trained to ensure comfort with the tasks assigned, as this work involves sensitive information and privacy requirements.

A national nonprofit, Breakthrough Collaborative is devoted to preparing high-achieving middle-school students, most of whom are of color and from low-income families, to enter and succeed in college-preparatory high school programs and college. Breakthrough students develop as highly motivated academic achievers who believe passionately in their ability to go to college. Breakthrough also recruits and trains outstanding high school and college students to become Breakthrough teaching fellows in a one-of-a-kind pre-professional teaching residency program. Breakthrough’s pre-professional teaching residency is highly selective and it has been ranked by the Princeton Review as a top 10 internship along with the White House, Google and MTV.

We are looking for students to serve as summer teaching fellows for our summer program. As a Breakthrough teaching fellow, you will receive extensive training, continuous support and the opportunity to lead a classroom while contributing to a dynamic, diverse community. You will practice persistence, creativity, and flexibility in collaboration with others. The Breakthrough teaching residency is one of the most rigorous and rewarding teaching experiences available to undergraduates in the US. Whether you have always dreamed of being in the classroom or are considering it for the first time, teaching at Breakthrough will help prepare you for a career in education while building skills that are transferable to any profession.
