Call for Ideas

Our Progress to Date

As a core feature of its work, the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) Committee encourages the participation of faculty, staff, and students in developing ideas for our next QEP, a university-wide initiative focused on improving student learning and success.

In early September, we conducted a survey of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members that yielded 541 responses. We asked, “When you think about the students who hope to graduate from UTA over the next decade, what do you see as the biggest challenge to their potential success at UTA and beyond?” Across all responses “future workforce readiness” emerged as the predominant theme (153 responses) followed by “financial barriers” (130 responses).

We presented a more detailed survey and other data to 27 mostly faculty participants at our World Café event on September 19. Overall, the group favored the theme of career readiness. A significant minority thought a focus on retention and completion would be more appropriate.

Within the theme of career readiness, discussion surfaced the following project ideas:

  • Create an early university course covering career readiness and exposure to career roles.
  • Embed UTA Maverick Advantage into students’ college experiences from the first year.
  • Promote professional skill development & industry engagement.
  • Expand internship opportunities.
  • Enhance career consciousness/conversations and supply coaches, course modules, or labs for career readiness.

Within the theme of “retention/completion,” the following ideas were proposed:

  • Adapt the Hacking College approach to student engagement and advising to help students find unique pathways through UTA.
  • Promote peer mentorship.
