Alumni Chapters

The Office of Alumni Relations fosters a lifelong relationship between alumni and UTA. One of the ways this is accomplished is through alumni chapters. We are eager to partner with alumni who are interested in starting regional and affinity chapters.

FAQ

Alumni chapters support UTA's mission and continue to connect members with fellow alumni and the University. Activities and events will vary by the type of chapter and its mission.

Most chapters choose events and programming within these main areas:

  • Socials – an event focused on connecting and engaging with other alumni in a social setting

  • Academic Interests – an event focused on connecting and engaging with other alumni in a social setting

  • Professional Networking – an event that serves as an opportunity for professional growth and development

  • Service – an event or program that invites alumni to serve the community

  • University Presentations – an event with a speaker or presentation from a University representative, i.e., faculty, staff

Regional alumni groups are broken down into geographic regions where concentrations of alumni live. Affinity groups include groups or organizations where there is an affinity-based relationship from the alumni with the organization or group. Examples of affinity groups include fields of study, clubs or organizations, athletics, etc.

The time involved will depend on the level of responsibilities to which you choose to commit. There are a variety of different opportunities for you to explore. For a more involved role, a chapter president could expect to spend multiple hours a week managing other volunteers. For a less involved role, a general member could expect to spend just a few hours every month attending a meeting or event, volunteering, etc.

Since chapters are run by volunteers, it's important to remember the experience is what you put into it. The most successful volunteers are committed to helping advance the goals and mission of the chapter and University, becoming very involved in alumni programming, and working diligently to progress the level of participation of others.

Yes. The UTA Office of Alumni Relations is available to help chapters organize and charter, market and plan events, train volunteers, and serve as a point of contact for chapter leaders. Alumni Relations can be consulted for matters related to growing membership, volunteer development, and professional development.
The UTA Office of Alumni Relations wants newly established chapters to be successful in increasing their engagement. The Office will support chapters by promoting events through email, social media, and UTA-provided promotional items for events. Chapter events are expected to be self-supporting.
