The University of Texas at Arlington and Canales Furniture are partnering to host their first College 101 series event this week on Thursday, Sept. 29.

All Dallas and Tarrant County high school seniors are invited with their families. At the bilingual recruitment event, attendees will learn more about the UTA admissions process and the Dallas Promise and Tarrant To and Through (T3) partnerships. High school seniors in attendance will receive a UTA application fee waiver.

“This event will provide families beneficial information to better support their students and prepare them for their chosen pathway,” said Dariela Gonzalez, assistant director for Dallas Promise at UTA.

Dallas County Promise is a program to reduce financial barriers and support students to succeed in college, careers and life with a commitment to securing a rewarding job in their career pathway. All eligible graduates have the opportunity to earn a last-dollar tuition award that will cover any gap between what a student’s state and federal financial aid cover and the cost of tuition. About 69 high schools across 11 school districts and several partner universities including UT Arlington, participate in the promise program.

The T3 partnership serves Fort Worth ISD students and is a community-wide collaborative effort focused on ensuring that more Tarrant County students obtain postsecondary credentials and have the training and skills to thrive in today’s workforce. T3 is dedicated to improving student outcomes in three primary areas:

  • Graduating more students from high school who are college-, career- and military-ready.
  • Helping more students enroll in postsecondary pathways with confidence.
  • Empowering more students to persist and earn degrees or credentials and enter the workforce prepared for successful careers.

The event is free and will take place from 6-8 p.m. at Canales Furniture located at 102 E. Interstate 20, Arlington, TX 76018.

Several community organizations will also share beneficial information on their services and resources, including the UTA Equal Opportunity Center and Child Care Associates, one of the largest child development organizations in North Texas.
