Tax plan

Roger Meiners, chair of UTA’s Department of Economics and Goolsby Distinguished Professor of Economics and Law, provided analysis of the proposed tax cut plan unveiled by the Republican party in a KXAS NBC 5 story. Meiners said average middle-class families would likely experience a slight decrease in taxes and the biggest change is a proposed reduction in corporate taxes.

Nurse licensing change

In a D CEO Healthcare column, Anne Bavier, dean of UTA’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation, praised a new initiative enabling Texas to join 25 states that have adopted an enhanced nurse licensure compact, which allows nurse licenses to be recognized across state lines. 

Iran nuclear deal letter

According to The New York Times and The Tehran Times, 90 experts in atomic sciences sent a letter to members of Congress encouraging them to take measures to preserve the Iran nuclear deal. David Nygren, UTA Presidential Distinguished Professor of Physics, was one of the experts who signed the letter.

Chemists on power list

Two chemists at The University of Texas at Arlington were named to Analytical Scientist Magazine’s 2017 Power List, according to Scienmag.com. Daniel Armstrong, the Robert A. Welch Distinguished Professor, and Purnendu “Sandy” Dasgupta, the Hamish Small Chair in Ion Analytics, are the only honorees from Texas universities to appear on the list.

Political analysis

Allan Saxe, associate professor of political science, offered analysis of the temporary suspension of President Donald Trump’s twitter account on WBAP 820 AM. In a separate WBAP 820 AM report, Saxe examined allegations of questionable agreements between the Democratic National Convention and Hillary Clinton made public in a new book by former DNC chair Donna Brazile.

UTA mentioned in district's growth

During a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Live! by Loews Hotel near Globe Life Park and AT&T Stadium, Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams said the new development will help the city grow its entertainment district from UTA to Interstate 30, The Dallas Morning News and KDFW FOX 4 reported.

Dia de Muertos

Isabel Montemayor, assistant professor of anthropology in UTA’s College of Liberal Arts, offered historical perspective on Dia de Muertos for KERA 90.1 FM’s Art & Seek program. Montemayor said the holiday is rooted in Mexican cultures in celebration and honor of loved ones who have died.

UTA Homecoming

Next week is Homecoming at UTA and businesses across Arlington are encouraged to show their Maverick pride, according to downtownarlington.org. The story includes a wrap up of the many spirit-filled events the general public is invited to attend. 

Veterans Day discussion

Kenyon Zimmer, associate professor of history in the College of Liberal Arts, will join a panel discussion about World War I at Tarleton State University during a commemoration of Veterans Day, reported the Stephenville Empire-Tribune.

Alumnus named vice president

A total of 25 years of food industry expertise and a degree in microbiology from UTA helped alumnus Robert Tyrell land a job as vice president of manufacturing with Litehouse Foods, according to delimarketnews.com. Litehouse produces salad dressings, dips and sauces.

New sales manager named

Andrew Wells, a UTA College of Business alumnus, is a new sales manager at Masaba Inc., a manufacturer of aggregate material handling solutions, according to americanrecycler.com
