Improving care for geriatric population
UTA's College of Nursing and Health Innovation (CoNHI) received a transformational $4.7 million gift from the Deerbrook Charitable Trust to further develop its adult gerontology graduate programs, Targeted News Service, News-Medical.Net and other media outlets reported. According to Dean Elizabeth Merwin, the Deerbrook Charitable Trust's gift “will solidify UTA's nursing program as a center of gerontology excellence.
Tech devices for elder care
UTA’s Research Institute (UTARI) and Neuro Rehab VR were mentioned in a CNBC article featuring “7 new tech devices for elder care that help seniors live happier, healthier lives.” With help from UTARI, the Fort Worth VR startup provides a virtual reality experience for older patients undergoing physical therapy following a stroke, brain injury or spinal cord injury or who suffer from neurodegenerative diseases.
Carcinogens in generic drugs
According the Food and Drug Administration, carcinogens have infiltrated the generic drug supply in the U.S., Bloomberg reported. Kevin Schug, UTA Shimadzu Distinguished Professor of Analytical Chemistry, weighed in on the way drug companies should handle detection of toxins and on procedures to correct problems in manufacturing.
