Improving care for geriatric population

UTA's College of Nursing and Health Innovation received a transformational $4.7 million gift from the Deerbrook Charitable Trust to further develop its adult gerontology graduate programs, D CEO Healthcare and Fort Worth Business Press reported. According to Dean Elizabeth Merwin, the Deerbrook Charitable Trust's gift “will solidify UTA's nursing program as a center of gerontology excellence."

New approach to combating malware

A UTA researcher is working to combat malware by building anti-malware code into computer hardware instead of relying on software, Targeted News Service reported. Jiang Ming, assistant professor of computer science and engineering, is using a $174,998 National Science Foundation grant for the research. Ming aims to develop a model that will allow recovery of the unpacking code at the hardware level.

UTA professor to paint portrait of Nobel Peace Prize winner

Sedrick Huckaby visited the Yunus Centre in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to paint a portrait of Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus for Vanderbilt University, the Yunus Centre and Targeted News Service reported. Huckaby, artist and UTA associate professor of art, is famous for his use of thick, impasto paint to produce large portraits. Yunus is the founder of Grameen Bank in Bangladesh, a model for combatting poverty through microlending. He was awarded the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom and the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal. 

President Karbhari keynote speaker at international symposium

UTA President Vistasp Karbhari of was the keynote speaker at a global symposium hosted by the Independent University in Bangladesh, The Daily Star reported. The event highlighted the need for change in traditional opportunities for higher education based on the evolution of modern society along with the possible collaborative initiatives.
