NIH project for brain injuries
The National Institutes of Health has given significant funding support to a UTA research team that is looking at groundbreaking treatment to speed up the healing of cranial injuries, Dallas Innovates reported. Venu Varanasi, an associate professor at UTA’s Bone-Muscle Research Center, is leading the project.
 
New UTA arc-heated, hypersonic wind tunnel
The UTA Aerodynamics Research Center and the Office of Naval Research have brought a new arc-heated, hypersonic wind tunnel online, marking a new era in the University’s long history of aerodynamics innovation and discovery, Defense Media Network reported. UTA’s Luca Maddalena, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, is leading the technology, which is part of a larger effort by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency for national research on hypersonic speed. Bendable concrete
A bendable concrete is being designed at the Louisiana Transportation Research Center and Tran-SET, a collaborative partnership between nine major institutions and two community colleges, Yahoo! Finance, Plaquemine, La., Post South and other media outlets reported. UTA is part of Tran-SET.
 
National Medal of Honor Museum
Arlington was named the home of the new National Medal of Honor Museum, an Arlington school district’s Facebook Live video reported. James Kumm, UTA executive director for Veterans Programs, spoke at the 4:48 mark. The museum is scheduled to be open to the public in 2024.
 
A cappella choir performs
UTA’s A Cappella Choir, led by Karen Kenaston-French, associate professor of music, was featured on Austin’s KMFA 89.6 FM Heart and Voice program.
 
NASA fellowships
NASA has awarded $2.3 million in fellowships to U.S. universities, including UTA, for aviation, planetary and space research, North Texas e-News reported.
