UTA renames administration building
The University of Texas at Arlington renamed its administration building after a thorough review of the rhetoric of its former namesake, E.E. Davis, revealed that his beliefs and writings oppose the University’s values of diversity, equity and inclusion, Fox 4 News and Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. The building is now called University Administration Building.
Don Huffines’ bid for governor
Tom Marshall, professor of political science, spoke to KERA 90.1 about former state Senator Don Huffines’ announcement that he is running for governor of Texas in 2022. Marshall believes Huffines’ bid to unseat Governor Greg Abbott is unlikely to succeed based on Abbott’s support among Republican voters.
Arlington debuts WWII Memorial
A newly dedicated World War II memorial in downtown Arlington includes a plaque detailing the wartime contributions of more than 5,000 students, alumni and faculty members of The University of Texas at Arlington, formerly known as North Texas Agricultural College, The Dallas Morning News and NBC 5 reported.
UTA student appointed to Governor’s council
Governor Greg Abbott appointed Abigail Brookshire, a student in the Department of Psychology, to the Texas Crime Victims’ Institute Advisory Council, ABC 9 and KLTV 7 News reported. The council is charged with conducting an in-depth analysis of the impact of crime on victims, close relatives of deceased victims, guardians of victims and society.
UTA alumnus conducts Italian orchestra
The Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai appointed Robert Treviño, UTA alumnus, as the orchestra’s principal guest conductor beginning in the 2021-2022 season, The Violin Channel reported.
