Recreating and Innovating

A UTA researcher is looking to the past to create the future of building materials, Dallas Innovates and Targeted News Service report. Warda Ashraf, associate professor of civil engineering, is researching how to recreate cement used by ancient Romans that would be more durable and cost-effective than current cement.

STEM Diversity

UTA is working to diversity the STEM workforce, Government Technology reports. New efforts include expanded programming geared toward helping more underrepresented students develop advanced skills in science and engineering, with a focus on math and physics.

5-Star Rating

National nonprofit Campus Pride recently designated UTA a five out of five for its commitment to LGBTQ-inclusive policies, programs and practices, U.S. Fed News reports.

Addressing Maternal Health

A working group established by the mayor of Fort Worth hopes to address maternal and infant health issues in Tarrant County, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Kyrah Brown, UTA assistant professor of kinesiology and director of the Maternal and Child Health Equity Lab, would like to see more community-based organizations be involved with the task force.

Oozeball returns

UTA students dove into the mud as part of the 33rd annual Oozeball Tournament, Campus Rec magazine reports. Around 100 teams participated, marking a return to pre-pandemic participation levels.

Back to the Ballpark

UTA’s commencement ceremonies will be returning to Globe Life Field, the city of Arlington reports. The move enables UTA to serve more graduates and guests and allow for fewer ceremonies and event days.
