Biomanufacturing hub planned

An effort to create a regional biomanufacturing training and research hub in North Texas and Oklahoma is underway, headed up by The University of Texas at Arlington, the Fort Worth Report reported. UTA is the lead applicant in a consortium of entities requesting designation by the U.S. Economic Development Agency as a Central Biomanufacturing Innovation Hub. Each of the 20 designated tech hubs across the country will receive $15 million in federal funding to accelerate economic growth.

Reality TV contestants

David Arditi, UT Arlington associate professor of sociology, wrote a column about the exploitation of reality television show contestants for The Conversation. The column also was published in the Albany, N.Y., Times Union, the Indiana Chronicle-Tribune; and the Indiana Franklin Times.

Maverick Speakers Series

Beloved children's programming icon and noted actor LeVar Burton will kick off the 2023-24 Maverick Speakers Series season at The University of Texas at Arlington at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, Mirage News reported.

Paper studies birds, landscape types
Luke Frishkoff, UT Arlington assistant professor of biology, was co-author on a paper comparing trends in specific bird populations across three landscape types in Costa Rica, Farming Portal reported.
