UTA History Doctoral Alumnus Secures Tenure-Track Job at Midwestern State

Congratulations to alumnus Dr. Brandon Blakeslee, who will be joining Midwestern State University as a tenure-track faculty member in Fall 2022! Dr. Blakeslee completed his dissertation, “Foot-Ball! Turning Colombian Boys into Patriotic Men: How Sport and Education Developed with Early Twentieth-Century Colombian Nationalism,” under the direction of Dr. David LaFevor in August of 2021.

During his time as a graduate student and an adjunct instructor, Dr. Blakeslee won numerous grants including the Drs. Benedict and Trudi Termini Graduate Fellowship; Betty and Roger Ruch Study Abroad Scholarship; and the Joe Arbenta Latin American Sport History Grant. Dr. Blakeslee also published “Making a Foreign Idea Your Own: The Transnational Transfer of Soccer into Argentina” in The Yearbook of Transnational History Vol. 2 and a book review of Hiding in Plain Sight: Black Women, the Law, and the Making of a White Argentine Republic by Erika Denise Edwards in PALARA. Dr. Blakeslee’s conference presentations include the South Eastern Council on Latin American Studies; the Open Education Conference; and the Rocky Mountain Council on Latin American Studies.
