This engaging summer learning experience will explore important conversations surrounding youth mental health, technology, well-being and social connection. Haidt’s nationally discussed book examines the relationship between smartphones, social media, childhood independence and the growing rates of anxiety, depression and loneliness among youth.
As educators, researchers, caregivers and community members, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on how technology, systems, environments and relationships shape the well-being of children, adolescents and families. The book club will create space for interdisciplinary dialogue, shared reflection and thoughtful discussion about how these challenges are appearing in our communities and the role social work can play in creating healthier, more connected environments for youth and families.
Topics explored throughout the book include mental health, social isolation, resilience, family systems, child development and school environments, all of which directly connect to understanding individuals within their broader social and environmental contexts.
Participants may read at their own pace and are invited to join optional live virtual discussions on:
Between sessions, members are encouraged to continue sharing reflections, resources and ideas through the online discussion space.
