Welcome to the Center for Service Learning! Here you will find numerous resources to assist as you engage in service learning at The University of Texas at Arlington. Since its beginning in the fall of 2001, CSL has empowered many faculty and students to experience the power of collaboration with community partners through their coursework.
What is Service Learning?
Service learning integrates community service into academic coursework, whereby students engage in classroom activities and reflection related to the performance of local service projects within the course.
More than a volunteer opportunity, service learning benefits both the student and the community partner through reciprocity of needs, which furthers the students' educational goals while promoting civic responsibility.
From focused collaboration with classmates and the community partner, to practical, real-world application, along with reflection and assessment, the learning process becomes a much richer and more well-rounded experience.

Faculty Fellows Program
The Faculty Fellows program is a semester-long program for any full-time UTA faculty interested in integrating service learning into their courses. In a series of monthly seminars, conducted both on campus and at area nonprofit agencies, faculty examine the academic and institutional origins of service learning, pedagogical best practices, and possibilities of combining service learning and research.
Collegiality is one of the highlights of the Faculty Fellows experience. Faculty meet, discuss, and share in small group settings to nurture their growth in service to their community and knowledge of the process, within a mentoring environment. Through this interaction, Faculty Fellows form sustainable partnerships and supportive networks, and have opportunities to engage in collaborative, community-based research and scholarship.
