Dear Resident,

Apartment and Residence Life and University Housing are continuously monitoring the evolving status of the world’s coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment to our residents.  To reduce the risk of virus transmission, we are announcing the following important changes, guidelines, and requirements.

  • The University will be conducting instruction via online methods until further notice.
  • University-owned apartments will continue to remain open.
  • Dining services information can be found on the UTA Dining page located here
  • For the latest updates on UTA’s response to the coronavirus, visit uta.edu/coronavirus.

The University is taking the following additional steps to maximize social distancing:

  • The University will conduct online instruction beginning March 23 and for the remainder of the spring 2020 semester. There will be no in-person instruction during this time. Students will be receiving information soon from departments and faculty about how to access and to complete their courses.
  • In line with national health guidelines, we strongly encourage all students to stay at home and/or return home and access facilities through online means. We recognize that some of our students may need computer facility access. More information will be sent out shortly regarding available resources and specially designed, socially distant computer labs on campus.
  • Living in campus residence halls and participating in campus dining programs will be limited to students who do not have a suitable alternative. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis, to serve students who require this accommodation, while observing social distancing practices. Further information on move-out procedures will be sent directly to residence hall residents by UTA Housing.
  • All campus tours, events, and activities are cancelled through the end of the spring semester. This includes student organization-sponsored campus events.

COVID-19 HOUSING FAQs

How do I cancel my residence hall contract and move out?
As you have recently been informed, the university will be delivering academic instruction solely on-line through the end of the spring 2020 semester.  As a result of this decision, and in accordance with guidelines from the CDC concerning social distancing during a pandemic event, all students living in a residence hall on campus are required to move back to their permanent residence for the remainder of the semester.  This notice applies to all residents of Arlington Hall, Kalpana Chawla Hall, Lipscomb Hall, Vandergriff Hall and West Hall. 

To schedule your check-out appointment, please follow the instructions below.

  1. Login in to the Housing Portal here.
  2. Review the Express Check-Out memo.
  3. Select a check-out time.
  4. You will receive an email confirming your scheduled check-out time.

Time slots for move-out must be strictly enforced to limit the number of people on campus to achieve social distancing objectives. Our goal is to have all students moved-out of the residence halls no later than Sunday, March 22nd.

Any student with special circumstances that cannot find a suitable alternative to their residence hall can request an exception which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  To request an exception, please complete the following form.

Will I receive a refund for our Residence Hall? 
The University is working with the University of Texas System Offices to address pro-rated refunds due for housing and dining charges to students moving from the residence halls. Additional information will be forthcoming as these decisions are finalized.

Special notes for apartment residents:

  • UTA apartments remain open for residents. 
  • Apartment information pertaining to Coronavirus can be found here.
  • No new guest requests or registered occupant additions will be approved at this time.
  • Apartment leaseholders in the “By the Unit” properties will not be allowed to add any new occupants to their apartment. Leaseholders will be able to remove occupants as necessary.
  • New lease assumption applications and apartment transfer requests will not be accepted until further notice.

How do I move out of my apartment?

As a valued member of our community, you are welcome to stay throughout this unprecedented time in our history.  However, due to the unusual circumstances caused by the current pandemic, the decision to continue to stay on campus or move out is entirely up to you.  In this instance, residents who request to move out without early termination penalties on or before April 30, 2020 will be approved to do so subject to the following conditions.

  1. You must complete an Occupant Termination Notice for move out.
  2. Residents in BY THE UNIT Apartments (Arbor Oaks, Center Point, Meadow Run, or University Village) can access the formhere. 
  3. Residents in the BY THE BED Apartments (The Heights, Timber Brook and The Lofts) can access the form here.  
  4. You must email your completed Occupant Termination Notice to housing@uta.edu by April 10, 2020.
  5. You must complete your Express Check-Out in accordance with your scheduled move-out date on or before April 30, 2020. The Express Check-Out Memo for Apartments is available here. 
  6. You will be charged rent until you remove all your personal property from the premises and complete all requirements noted above.  Your rent will be pro-rated based on the date of your move-out. 

UTA also recommends our community members follow CDC and public health guidelines, which include:

  • Practice social distancing. You should remain out of congregate settings, avoid mass gatherings, and maintain distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible.
  • Stay home if you are sick and seek medical attention.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitizer.
