A Focus on Faculty
During her State of the University speech in late 2023, UT Arlington President Jennifer Cowley announced the launch of a multiyear project called RISE 100.
“Our Recruiting Innovative Scholars for Excellence (RISE) initiative will bring 100 new faculty to UTA over the next couple of years, growing our research-engaged faculty by 15%,” she said to an audience of civic leaders, UTA faculty and staff, and community partners. “We know that to create the impact we want on the state of Texas, our nation, and beyond, we must expand the size of our faculty. We know we need more scholars taking on the biggest challenges of our times. This RISE 100 initiative represents a $60 million investment in the future of our University.”
The first wave of hiring is building upon existing faculty expertise in three critical areas chosen for their importance to the future economic and cultural growth of North Texas: brain health, semiconductor technology, and community-engaged research.
The following pages provide a glimpse at the strong foundation these new hires will have to build upon. From breakthroughs in treating epilepsy in children to explorations of a new type of semiconductor laser, the research currently underway at UTA is making an impact on communities in Texas.
“We have true and distinguished faculty excellence at UT Arlington,” says Tamara K. Brown, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “RISE 100 will yield ever-greater results by pushing the boundaries of knowledge and advancing our culture of innovation and discovery.”
