Program Overview

UTA’s civil engineering degree program is the oldest in North Texas and enjoys longstanding relationships with industry and governmental agencies, giving students up-close access to research affecting the state, region and surrounding community.

Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering is a research oriented degree and, as such, requires the candidate to successfully carry out original and independent research in a civil engineering area acceptable to the civil engineering faculty. In addition to research, student’s Ph.D. advisor and PhD Committee will evaluate the student’s fundamental knowledge of the master’s core courses and determine the required coursework.

Students without a Master's degree may enter the Ph.D. program. Students entering the Ph.D. program with only a bachelors degree will be required to complete the master's core courses.
