DEGREE OVERVIEW

The 120-credit hour degrees contain several options with different course plans. The options are designed to meet different needs of students who want to be professional geologists; work with engineering firms on construction and environmental problems; deal with environmental problems related to water, atmosphere, soils, and rocks; analyze spatial data using GIS software; or earn science teacher certification.


ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The degrees prepare graduates the skills needed in areas of natural resources exploration, production and conservation, water supply, environmental engineering and planning, and geological surveying. Graduates will also develop skills transferable to other fields, such as problem-solving, observation, data collection, analysis, and interpretation, and oral and written presentation.

DEGREE OPTIONS

BS-Professional Option

This degree is for students who plan to enter geology profession or go to graduate school. The program emphasizes breadth and exposes students to most of the geological disciplines.

This degree emphasizes the application of earth science to environmental problems associated with the hydrosphere, atmosphere, and natural hazards.

This degree is for students who are interested in combining geology with civil engineering coursework to work with engineering firms on construction and environmental problems.

BA-Geographic Information Systems Option

This degree is for students who want to combine geology with computer technology to store and analyze spatial data using GIS software.
