Departmental Scholarships
The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences has several endowed scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students to assist them in paying for tuition and other college expenses. Most of the scholarships are for juniors and seniors majoring in geology. The application deadline is typically in early spring in each year, and details will be announced through emails to student listserves. These scholarships are mostly merit based, but some of them also consider financial need of students. The applications will be reviewed by the department’s scholarship committee and recipients will be informed by early May each year.
J.D. Boone Scholarship
This award is for undergraduate students majoring in geology.
Patricia and Charles Jenkins Scholarship
This award is for undergraduate students majoring in geology.
Donald F. Reaser Scholarship
This award is for undergraduate students majoring in geology.
Wanda Slagle Scholarship
This award is for undergraduate students majoring in geology and planning to attend the department’s Field Camp.
Fort Worth Wildcatters Association Scholarship
This award is for undergraduate students majoring in geology and interested in working in the petroleum industry.
Spindletop Oil & Gas Co. Undergraduate Scholarship
This award is for undergraduate students majoring in one of the EES programs.
North Central Texas Region of the Texas Water Utilities Association Scholarship
This award is for undergraduate students majoring in environmental science, geology, biology or chemistry, and interested in environmental professions.
Spindletop Oil & Gas Co. Graduate Fellowship
This award is for graduate students enrolled in one of the EES programs.
College of Science Scholarships
In addition to the department scholarships, the College of Science has the following scholarships which are open to EES students. Students can apply through Mav ScholarShop and deadlines are generally in late January each year.
Dean’s Excellence Scholarship
These awards are for College of Science undergraduate and graduate students.
Ann H. Benham Scholarship
These awards are for College of Science undergraduate students.
Bobbitt Family Endowed Scholarship
These awards are for full-time graduate students pursuing a doctoral degree in the College of Science.
Dr. Franklyn Alexander Scholarship
These awards are for College of Science undergraduate and graduate students; preference is given to students who have graduated from a Texas high school in a town with a population of less than 150,000.
