Program Overview

  • All entering students majoring in SUD are admitted into our Design Basic Studies program.
  • Students in this program must complete the 1st and 2nd year Urban Design/Architecture/Landscape Architecture/Planning courses in sequence, along with their core curriculum, before declaring a major and enrolling in 3rd/4th year Urban Design and Landscape Architecture courses.
  • The SUD consists of a series of lectures and design studios that must be taken sequentially.
  • Students can be declared into the Architecture major after meeting all admission requirements, with a minimum GPA of 2.8.

BS SUD is a four-year pre-professional degree that prepares students for advanced study in the Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) program. Students who meet graduate admission requirements may continue into the two-year MLA, creating a six-year pathway to professional practice in landscape architecture, urban design, and sustainable placemaking.

Through the SUD program, students develop knowledge and skills in urban design, sustainability, ecology, and the built environment, building a strong foundation for graduate study in landscape architecture and professional practice. The MLA is a professional degree accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB) and is designated as a STEM program.
