Business Analytics Graduate Celebrates Success
Usra first came to UTA as a transfer student in Fall 2020. Having a business-minded family and an entrepreneurial father, she knew she wanted to study business. "I've always been taught to focus five, ten years in the future and think about what success will look like for me," said Usra. "What will be in demand, and how can I gain the skills to succeed ten years from now? So I first chose information systems."

Denise Wylie, Assistant Director of Undergraduate Advising for the College of Business, helped coach and advise Usra on her academics and future career path. "Usra came into my office asking about the different majors. She was interested in a STEM degree and wanted to help companies improve their processes so they could be successful," recalls Denise. "Usra is a go-getter and an incredibly hard worker. She knew what she wanted and stuck with it!"
"Denise was awesome! She asked all the right questions about my goals and what I wanted to accomplish," said Usra. "It was an easy decision to change my major to business analytics. It was a new program, and I knew the skills I would gain would be in peak demand right after I graduated and on into the future."

After changing her major to business analytics in the Spring of 2022, Usra completed several courses that would give her immediate marketable skills:
- Introduction to Business Analytics (BANA 3308): Introduces students to data mining and business analytics techniques that will enable them to draw actionable insights from data.
- Data Visualization and Business Intelligence (BANA 3309): Introduces students to cutting-edge techniques for visualizing data and creating dashboards to facilitate data-driven decision-making.
"These courses gave me the in-depth knowledge and hands-on skills I was looking for," Usra said. "I was able to apply and get an internship in Fall 2022 with Fidelity as an Implementation Analyst. Fidelity told me that they chose me for the internship because of my skills in data mining which was very exciting."
When asked what she enjoyed most about her experience, Usra exclaimed, "What's not to love? I have really enjoyed the journey and would encourage future students to explore majoring in business analytics. From small class sizes, scholarship opportunities, job prospects, and great faculty, it's just been an amazing experience."
