Monday, Mar 19, 2018

We are pleased to announce Dr. Adrian Parr has been appointed dean of the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA) at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). After an extensive effort from the search committee, we are excited to welcome her to our community.

Dr. Parr is a Professor at the University of Cincinnati, with a dual appointment in the Department of Political Science in the College of Arts and Science and in the School of Architecture and Interior Design. She holds multiple leadership roles including UNESCO Chair on Water Access and Sustainability and Director of the Taft Research Center for Humanities.

Her internationally renowned scholarly work and diverse experience ranges in focus from theories of sustainability, water politics, and environmental justice to subjects of architecture theory/criticism and sustainability in design. This wide scope of expertise will be particularly beneficial to the distinctive, yet parallel, programs within CAPPA.

UTA’s enviable location in the fast-growing Metroplex will offer numerous opportunities for Dr. Parr to use her expertise, which is guided by her multidisciplinary perspective regarding sustainability and urbanization. In turn, her experience dovetails with the theme Sustainable Urban Communities, a critical component of the university’s Strategic Plan.

Her husband, Michael Zaretsky, award-winning architect and director of the MetroLAB design/build initiative at the University of Cincinnati, will be joining UTA’s Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering. Zaretsky likewise will be beneficial to the advancement of sustainable urban communities through anticipated increased collaboration between the two colleges, as well between UTA and the DFW area.

We want to recognize and thank Dr. James Grover for his service and leadership as interim dean during this transition period.

We are fortunate to have attracted Dr. Parr to be the new Dean of CAPPA. Please provide Dr. Parr with a warm welcome and wish her every success as Dean.
