Student Organizations in Civil Engineering
Architectural Engineering Institute
The Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI) Student Chapter at UT-Arlington bridges the gap between academic knowledge and industry practice. We provide students with opportunities for professional growth and networking through hosting guest speakers from the AREN field (structural engineering, MEP, construction management, architecture, and forensic engineering) at our general body meetings, resume workshops, social events, and volunteering events. AEI fosters collaboration among students, faculty, and industry professionals, creating a supportive community for career preparation and lifelong learning. If you're passionate about building design and engineering, AEI is perfect for you! You don't have to be an architectural engineering or engineering major—anyone is welcome to join!
Architectural Engineering InstituteAmerican Society of Civil Engineers
ASCE is one of the oldest organizations focusing on all the major branches of civil engineering. The Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) is a technical group of ASCE focusing on structural engineering only.
ASCEChi Epsilon
Chi Epsilon is the honor society of Civil engineering. Students and professionals are selected to become members based on recognition of their scholarship, character, practicality and sociability, considered by Chi Epsilon to be the four primary traits of a successful engineer. For student members, scholarship is determined by being in the top third of their junior or senior class. Members of Chi Epsilon are considered top graduates and are highly sought by civil engineering employers.
Chi EpsilonConstruction Management Club
The UTA Construction Management Club is a dynamic student organization dedicated to preparing future leaders in the construction industry. We connect students with industry professionals through guest speakers, workshops, and networking events, fostering meaningful relationships and practical learning beyond the classroom.
Our mission is to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application by offering hands-on experiences, site tours, and discussions on industry trends. By engaging with seasoned experts and innovative practices, student gain invaluable insights and develop the skills essential for thriving in the construction field.
Join us to explore opportunities, build a professional network, and cultivate the leadership qualities needed for a successful career in construction management. The CM Club is where learning meets action!
Design-Build Institute of America
The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Student Chapter at the University of Texas at Arlington fosters the next generation of leaders in the design-build industry. Dedicated to promoting collaboration, innovation, and integrated project delivery, the chapter serves as a bridge between students and industry professionals. Through 3 engaging events, workshops, and networking opportunities, members gain insights into best practices and emerging trends in design-build project delivery. The chapter emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, bringing together students from construction, engineering, and architecture disciplines to enhance teamwork and problem-solving skills. By participating in DBIA's programs and competitions, members gain real-world experience and professional connections, preparing them for successful careers in the construction and design industries. Join us to build your skills, network, and future!
Construction Drone Club
The Construction Drone Club at the University of Texas at Arlington offers students and staff an exciting opportunity to explore unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Since June 2024, the club has been a proud member of the FAA's UAS-CTI Program, supporting the advancement of drone technology and its applications. Join us for weekly drone flying sessions during the semester, supervised by certified Remote-Pilot-in-Command (RPIC) members. Alternatively, you can participate in virtual drone operation using VR goggles and controllers for a hands-on simulation experience.
You can sign up for flying sessions at the club entrance in Nedderman Hall (NH 243). For more details on session schedules and activities, visit our webpage. Take the first step into the dynamic world of drones!
Construction Drone ClubEngineers Without Borders
Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping communities meet their basic human needs. The students at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) are currently working on an international project in Bolivia, where they are helping a local community improve its water distribution system. Working alongside professional engineers, students collaborate to design and implement the most effective solutions.
In addition to their international efforts, EWB-UTA volunteers locally at places such as Mission Arlington, Fish Creek Clean-up, and Cedar Ridge Preserve, among others. This student chapter is made up of passionate students committed to making a positive impact both globally and locally.
Engineers Without BordersInstitute of Transportation Engineers
The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Student Chapter at The University of Texas at Arlington, established in 1991, fosters student engagement in transportation and traffic engineering. As part of ITE District 9 (Texas), the chapter connects members to a global network of 17,000 transportation professionals across 92+ countries. The chapter aims to advance transportation by promoting professional development, hosting expert speakers, organizing field trips, and participating in state and national conferences. Members gain valuable opportunities to present research, network with industry leaders, and cultivate a professional spirit. With a focus on innovation, safety, and mobility, the chapter provides a platform for aspiring transportation engineers and planners to grow academically and professionally.
Institute of Transportation EngineersNorth American Society for Trenchless Technology
The NASTT UTA Student Chapter introduces students to the innovative field of Trenchless Technology through hands-on learning, research, and industry exposure. Established in Fall 2006, the chapter is guided by Dr. Mo Najafi and actively engages graduate and undergraduate students in activities like field trips, guest lectures, and conferences such as the NASTT No-Dig Show. Members participate in cutting-edge research on trenchless methods like CIPP and SAPL, while also benefiting from scholarships and networking opportunities. The chapter fosters connections between academia and industry, helping students build skills and contribute to advancements in sustainable underground infrastructure.
NASTT Student ChapterStructural Engineering Institute
ASCE is one of the oldest organizations focusing on all the major branches of civil engineering. SEI encourages Graduate Students currently enrolled in universities to form Graduate Student Chapter and get affiliated with SEI. The purpose of this graduate student chapter is to enhance the knowledge of the students in the field of structural engineering and ensure a smooth transition from college to career. The experience gained by the students as a member of the graduate student chapter will help them to be an active member of SEI in the professional life and contribute to structural engineering as well as to the society.
