Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies Internships

The Red Flag Campaign begins in October to advocate healthy relationships and prevention of relationship abuse.  

Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies Program offers the GWSS 4393, Internship Practicum course as a stepping stone to your chosen career. Meeting career contacts, learning how a business functions or what’s involved with a non-profit organization helps you build your own career path.


Internships

GWSS Program internship opportunities include the following 8 organizations:

AIDS Interfaith Network

Located in Dallas. Would require interns to assist in fundraising efforts through grants activities, research, and events, among other activities. GWSS Minors with interests in healthcare, research, and community outreach have chosen this organization for an internship.

AIDS Interfaith Network

Bethesda Gardens Senior Living Community

Located in Arlington. The facility provides full-service assisted living care while promoting social, spiritual, and physical well-being for each resident. GWSS Minors with a Nursing Major have often chosen this organization for an internship.

Girls, Inc.

Located in Arlington. Student interns are required to take 30 hours of advance training, and will be volunteering for after-school programs, supervising, and educating girls, among other tasks. GWSS Minors with interests in education and child development have chosen this organization for an internship.

National Cowgirl Museum

Located in the Ft. Worth Cultural District, the organization welcomes student interns to assist with museum exhibits, office duties, and special projects. GWSS Minors with interests in history, museum studies, and fundraising methods have chosen this organization for an internship.

Planned Parenthood

This organization has health centers in Arlington, Dallas, and Ft. Worth. The organization welcomes student interns in their Public Affairs Office (campus organizing), or in their Development Office (fundraising). There are no health clinic duties. GWSS Minors with interests in community outreach and fundraising methods have chosen this organization for an internship.

Planned Parenthood

Resource Center Dallas

Located in Dallas, the organization has several opportunities for student interns, ranging from the Nutrition Center, Client Services, Fundraising, Latino Health Programs, to Special Skills Volunteers. GWSS Minors with interests in graphic arts, healthcare, community outreach, and fundraising methods have chosen this organization for an internship.

Safe Haven

Located in Tarrant County, the organization welcomes student interns to help with general office assistance tasks like working with shelter residents, and processing new clients. GWSS Minors with interests in social services, non-profit organizations, and community well-being have chosen this organization for an internship.

Youth First Texas

Located in Dallas, the organization is a program within the Resource Center Dallas, offering a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth. Student interns would work with youth groups, organize events, and assist with special projects. GWSS Minors with interests in social services, community outreach, and event planning have chosen this organization for an internship.

In addition to the organizations listed on this page, UTA’s GWSS Program also offers an internship for students enrolled in GWSS 4393: social media intern. Students choosing to work as a social media intern for GWSS Program will coordinate social media posts with the GWSS Director.
