Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Bulletin Board

Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration of the history, impact, and culture of the U.S. Latinx and Hispanic communities. The celebration is from September 15th to October 15th. In 1968, September 15th was chosen as the kickoff because it coincides with the Independence Day celebrations in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16th and 18th respectively.

Originally recognized as Hispanic Heritage Week, it was extended to a month and made official in 1989.
