Research Interests/Clinical Practice Expertise: I am licensed therapist and have over five years in direct service delivery both in primary health care and behavioral health. I have provided therapy to various populations ranging from adolescents to severely mentally ill clients in an inpatient psychiatric facility. In addition to being a professor, I work as the Mental Health Court Administrator for a north Texas county hospital. My academic and professional research focuses on the impact of mental illness on justice-involved individuals. I have authored and coauthored numerous peer reviewed journal articles, published book reviews and have been a guest editor on several high impact journals. I enjoy public speaking and have presented at several national and international conferences. My expertise is in research with justice involved populations and my overarching research agenda is concerned with challenging the narratives around this population. I've taught research, statistics, substance abuse, advanced micro practice, cultural diversity, budgeting and financial analysis, and inequities and incarceration courses.
