Since completing her undergraduate and graduate studies in 2018 through the UTA nursing program, Susan Grafton describes her career as having “blossomed.” Grafton is currently employed by the California Department of Justice in the Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse in which she works side-by-side special agents and deputy attorney generals in conducting investigations, and serves as the team’s medical expert in criminal prosecution.

“I have the absolute COOLEST nursing job in the world! I had no idea when I started nursing school, I could ever be an essential element in law enforcement at the same time,” says Grafton.

Grafton expressed her passion for UTA and continues to be grateful for the opportunities that came about because of her experiences. “I’ve referred many people to follow my course of study at UTA and am so proud to report all who have attended have wonderful things to say about it,” says Grafton.

During her undergraduate capstone class, Grafton completed a research project on overcoming adversity that has led to many additional passion projects. Grafton launched a website in which she writes about how she overcame her own adversities and her successful growth throughout her journey. Furthermore, Grafton developed a lecture she used while teaching in an RN program in Sacramento, Calif., which outlined the implications of childhood sexual abuse in the adult patient within the nursing field.

Now, Grafton is in the process of publishing her memoir titled “Reclaimed Truth,” which will be released in 2022. The memoir discusses Grafton’s childhood experiences and how she overcame multigenerational poverty and family disfunction. Grafton’s perseverance and dedication paved the way for her many accomplishments. The passion she holds for her educational journey and career continues to guide her towards prosperity.

“In all of these successes, I can pinpoint where my experience at UTA gave me the skill set and knowledge to build on,” says Grafton.
